New Design HELP!
Ok Spacevidcasters, I need your help and fast!
I’m trying to give the Spacevidcast site a badly needed revision. The site itself is getting very cluttered in the main navigation and I could use some more room in the video window. Rather than make you click on a video from the homepage to start viewing I wanted to allow you to watch the video right from there. So fewer clicks, cleaner code, better navigation and more room were a few of my goals. I do have a beta available which you can see by going to http://beta.spacevidcast.com (note that not all pages work, right now I’m only focused on the homepage). Generally speaking most users don’t seem to like the really large format video. I would like to know if you like it or not and if not, would you prefer that I stick with a theme much closer to the current site design?
Remember that this is a beta site. Nearly all the features are there they just don’t all work correctly. In your opinion is this site easier or harder than the old site? Also note that the site is fluid, so you’ll see changes in real-time on the beta site as I work on it. Your constructive feedback (and details as to why you think what you’re thinking) would be greatly appreciated.
I would also like to know… What do you think Spacevidcast is? Who are we, what do we do and why are we here? Just checking to see how scattered that answer will be.

The Logo need to be bigger at the top and add SVC logo next to the CC logo and Twitter, FaceBook links at the bottom of page … Your Branding need jump off the page sound like Nike Ex… Also need add SVC logo to Youtube land pic and top video needs to be little smaller ….. Look Great !! MHolzinger
I think that the new design looks slightly bigger, but I don’t like the size of the video, maybe that it should only be that size when you are broadcasting your live show maybe? As personally, when I load up a website I don’t always scroll down, as when I load the website up all I can see is the video and doesn’t want me to stay on the web page. I also think the logo at the top of the web page should be larger, other than that I think it’s fine.

Overall I like it. The one thing I’d change, personally, is to put the countdown to live show up toward the top, maybe the top, right corner? I don’t like having to scroll to double-check the time. The large format video is no problem on the main page, but I’d be scrolling to view/participate in chat if you where planning on leaving it that big everywhere.
As for what Spacevidcast is? Well, it’s the only Internet TV show worth watching (I don’t like to use the outdated term ‘channel’ when referring to Internet shows) these days. At least, amongst the ones I’ve come along, it’s the only one to hold my interest.
Sorry Ben, I’m looking at the beta site via Chrome Mac and the main video seems a bit too large. I like the comments above of having a bigger SVC logo and maybe the countdown timer in a smaller font…

BTW its my humble opinion that SVC homepage looks like ESA.int (same colors). As with the ESA.int site, SVC has just as much information as easily accessible but maybe it would be better to have a section “Your Spacevidcast Epic” instead of “Spacevidcast Epic log in.”
Like others have said, up the size of the masthead. Other than that, I have no problem with the video size, or the arrangement of anything else on the page. I *do* miss the sidebar items that the current homepage has, and no offence, but *what* navigation? Aside from the “Select a Category” dropbox, there really isn’t any. Perhaps you could include these things in some kind of collapsible sidebar box, so that they are still available but don’t take up any space? (Sorry if these are things intended but not yet added.)
Correct, the sidebar on the site site does not have all content added in yet. You can see basically how it will work though. The sidebar on the old site is a bit of a cluster where it is really hard to find anything.

Took a look again today. New video size is good, my only two nitpicks (and they are that) I have are 1) I like the countdown higher on the page; I still have to scroll a bit to see it and 2) the “subscribe to us/join the conversation” areas seem a little, umm, huge. I might not feel that way but for placement though. If I can make a suggestion, from top to bottom:
1) countdown
2) join
3) member login
4) subscribe
If you scale the join and subscribe sections down a bit, you *may* be able to have the recent articles show up on the first screenful, but that may be too much for the eyes.

Oh, search was to go below the countdown. I’m assuming the blank space above it is for ad space?
I checked again the beta site, and its looking pretty good! I like the flow with the “Join the conversation” as well as the “subscribe to us” up on the top right, then the “login.” Good job and keep it up Bencredible!
