I sooooooo want a Segway

Posted in Uncategorized on August 30th, 2007 by Bencredible – 3 Comments

I’ll admit it, I’m an uber nerd.  I have no real reason to own one, but for some reason I want, nay NEED a Segway.  I’m trying to decide on a model.  Do I go with the sleeker and less expensive i2 or the bigger and badder X2?

  Segway i2 Segway X2

I have a bunch of hard choices and decisions ahead of me.  How do I justify the $7,000 price tag?  How do I properly show off my new nerdy toy?  How do I justify the $7,000 price tag?  Which model do I go with?  How do I justify the $7,000 price tag?  Can I ride it to work in the winter?  And finally, how in the world do I justify the $7,000 price tag?

I’m a technoholic.  I buy cool tech toys and play with them.  I blow tons of cash on items that I really shouldn’t.  It’s a horrible habit that I must get out of.  $7,000 is too steep, I just can’t bring myself to do it.  I really want to, but I can’t.  It would be super fun to shoot video on one of these, or use it to scoot around and grab interviews.  Still can’t justify the $7,000.

If a couple of us in the office got Segways then we could have nerd jousting matches, Segway sword fights and races.  That would be a TON of fun, however now we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars not just the $7,000 for my own.  I’m not sure I could convinse others to buy one.

If someone at Segway is reading this, throw me a bone here!  I’m a great beta tester and would be more than happy to give feedback and data on cool new toys that you guys have.  I just simply can’t afford the Segway at this time, but would buy one in a heartbeat if I could.

Maybe I should start a Segway fund?  There’s a Segway dealer about 30 minutes away from me, I think I should pay them a quick visit… As long as I leave all my credit cards and checking accounts at home!

How do I record the iPhone?

Posted in Uncategorized on August 29th, 2007 by Bencredible – 1 Comment

Recently I decided to move to Bloglines for my blog reading due in no small part to the iPhone interface that they have.  I want to record what the interface looks like but I have no easy way to get a clean signal from the iPhone into a recordable device.

I thought about recording Safari and then compositing that back into my final video but the Safari interface needs to be sized exactly and skinned properly. Anyone know of a good way to record video of what I’m doing on my iPhone?  iPhone emulator on the Mac?  Someone got the specs on that nifty little output dongle Steve Jobs used when he was on stage? Thoughts?

The planet is flat and I can prove it

I can prove the planet is flat and not round. How you ask? Simple, I fell off.

The world is flat

I bet every one my reader is wondering what happened to me. Long story short, I found a way to cram 30 hours into a 24 hour day and decided to work them all for the last month. I have been busy with a massive system upgrade which unfortunately I can’t show or talk about, but it was freaking huge. This consumed my every waking moment, so much so that I had to stop writing for TechnologyEvangelist.com, stop doing my daily podcasts and now I have fans who are knocking on my door every single day asking when I’ll return. I’m a bit flattered that we have so many people who listen from all across the globe willing to take time out of their day to yell at me. All blogging, podcasting and social media stopped for a month. I have been disconnected.

NO LONGER! I’m at the point where I can hand the baton off to other engineers and work on other projects. Sure I’ll still be busy but now I’ll have enough time to actually have a life again. This is great because I’ve done this whole system upgrade thing one too many times now, and it’s always the same. Time for me to move on, I’m getting bored with this server stuff. New media here I come!

Speaking of new media, Ed Kohler of TheDeets.com has created a new social media site called walleye.mn and I suggest everyone in Minnesota check it out. I’m thinking of starting an Eden Prairie centric blog since there seem to be no hookable stories in the EP category. Hmmmmmm, that’s no good, no good at all. Since Bencredible.com is high on ego but low on readers, it would be handy if everyone could pass along the domain to a couple of people since the blog itself doesn’t have enough power to knock out Ed’s servers by a mere URL mention. Yet. I know I have family and friends reading this, so I challenge you to actually get some people actively engaged in walleye.mn. Of course I have a challenge for Ed too: make walleye.mn a bit more human friendly. Maybe I’ll just have to remember that Eden Prairie is actually category ID 18. It’s so obvious now. 18! I think we all know who Cat ID 17 is… Oh yeah!

More updates and details of when I start to podcast, additional projects I’m starting and how I’m about to re-start my social life coming soon. If you want updates on what I’m working on next for TechnologyEvangelist.com or any of my new media projects, this is the place to be. The behind-the-scenes action starts… NOW!
