My dragon tattoo

For those who have never seen this before, I bring you my dragon tattoo! I had an old line-art angel tattoo that the new dragon covers. It takes a minute to see the angel.

Old Tattoo

I felt that my skin was much to white and pasty, so I decided that a very large black ink dragon might help eliminate glare while at the beach.

Hmmm, seems I still have a little glare. Maybe I should get another one…

EDIT - You can now get a copy of this tattoo in this thread: http://www.bencredible.com/2008/05/20/my-dragon-tatto-now-available/

    Hi there,

I utterly adore this tattoo. I’ve been wanting a dragon tattoo that went over my shoulder for years, but never saw a design that looked ‘right’. This is unbelievably awesome almost in its simplicity (everything else I looked at was ridiculously overcomplicated).

I see some people have already asked, and you may be wanting to keep it to yourself since its an original piece, but is there any chance of getting a copy of the image? I’d like to try and tweak the design for myself.

  27. The dragonfly, with its delicate, fine line depictions and gossamer thin yet opalescent WINGS and body, is a frequent insect subject of tattoo art, symbolic of swift activity according to some Native American groups. To the Chinese, the dragonfly is a symbol of summer but also of instability. To the Japanese, the dragonfly means quite a bit more. In fact, an old name for Japan, Akitsu-shimu, means `Dragonfly Island.” There the dragonfly was good luck, a sign of a good harvest, and used as a symbol for warrior clans and emperors alike.

  28. The snake takes a preeminent place in the world of symbolism and is especially popular in tattoo art. It holds fundamental associations with life and rejuvenation from the shedding of its skin, as well as death, since it is sometimes able to kill with a venomous bite. Dwelling underground, the snake symbolized the Underworld for many cultures, such as those in Egypt, Central America, and North America. In Norse mythology, a giant snake is wrapped around the EARTH, symbolizing the sea. In the CHINESE ZODIAC, people born in the Year of the Snake are considered quiet and wise, if vain. The biblical serpent of Genesis was the embodiment of Satan but was later put upon a pole by Moses to save his people, and finally interpreted as Christ himself, lifted upon a different kind of pole to save the world.
